I love oat slices. Especially my Buttery Caramel Oat Slice. They’re very versatile and definite crowd pleasers. This Nutella Caramel Oat Slice takes the average oat slice to the next level. We have crunchy and rich oat slice bottom and top with a buttery caramel filling and pockets of Nutella dotted throughout. Nutella makes everything better am I right?
I love how easy this slice is to make and is one of those make ahead morning or afternoon tea recipes, a scrummy dessert or perfect lunchbox filler. Like I said, versatile.
We take the oat mix which is a mixture of oats, flour, brown sugar, coconut, eggs and lots of butter to achieve the rich, deep flavour and get the lovely golden crunch. The filling is then a four ingredient condensed milk caramel. My favourite caramel in all the world! Sweet yet rich and holds its shape which is perfect for the centre of a slice. Next we dollop generous spoonfuls of Nutella throughout and bake to perfection.
When I say this Nutella Caramel Oat Slice is a crowd pleaser, I mean it! I took these to a family gathering and my family all but inhaled the plate. Trust me, they’re GOOD.
It feels like I have been away from LCB for ages but it’s only been a week. I apologise for the delay in posts but I have been desperately trying to speed up the blog and am currently in the process of sorting all that out so this site is far more accessible and nicer to visit and use. I have just recently realised how much of a problem my site speed was and I am now finding out just how hard it is to fix. Well, I better get back to it. Wish me luck!
Don’t forget to #lightscamerabake on Instagram if you try this, or any of my other recipes. I absolutely love seeing all your sweet treats.
Nutella Caramel Oat Slice takes the average oat slice to the next level. Crunchy and rich oat slice bottom and top with a caramel and Nutella filling.
- 220 g Butter Melted
- 1 and 1/2 Cups Brown Sugar
- 2 Large Eggs
- 1 and 2/3 Cups Flour
- 1 Cup Self Raising Flour
- 2 and 1/2 Cups Oats
- 1 Cup Coconut
- Caramel Filling;
- 110 g Butter
- 1 Tin Condensed Milk
- 1/4 Cup Golden Syrup (Or brown sugar)
- 1 Tsp Vanilla Essence
- 2/3 Cup Nutella
Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a 9x13 baking tin with baking paper.
First make the caramel.
Place the condensed milk, golden syrup and butter in a saucepan on a medium heat and allow them to melt together.
Once it has all come together take off the heat and add the vanilla essence.
Allow to cool slightly while you prepare the topping and base.
Place the brown sugar in a bowl and mix in the melted butter.
Add in the eggs and mix.
Add the two flours, oats and coconut and mix until all combined.
Dollop over tablespoons of Nutella throughout the caramel. You can add as much or as little as you like but mine ended up being around 2/3 of a cup.
Top with the caramel and then crumble over the remaining oat mixture on top.
Place in the oven to bake for around 30 minutes. The top should be a light golden colour.
Allow to cool completely before slicing. I like to cool mine in the fridge so the caramel slices nicely.
